RE: shreveport la

I like the Shreveport KOA. Easy access to/from the interstate, friendly owners, good wifi, quiet location.

RE: Gray water back up

I had a similar problem once, but with black water. Yuck! Turns out the rookie RVer in the campsite next to mine shoved his hose all the way down the ground pipe to where it tied into the main line. Since I was on the other side of the septic tank, the black water shot back up my pipe and blew my hose off, spraying (ahem) "stuff" all over me. I think I invented a few new four letter words that day and I'm glad that the guy next to me wasn't around.

RE: Persuading Wife To Try Driving MH

Had the same problem. Wife finally agreed to try driving it on a remote area of the interstate. Once she had 50 miles under her belt, both she and I felt comfortable, knowing that she could drive it if she had to. So my suggestion is to take her to a remote area (or an empty parking lot to begin with) and let her drive without fear of other vehicles.

RE: Paying Bribes!

I had a similar license plate scam played on me in Baja some years back. They had a police checkpoint right in the middle of Cabo and tried to get me to pay a fine because the tow bar on my toad was blocking the front license plate. There were tons of tourists walking around and I made a big fuss about ripping tourists off as the crowd began to gather. To help them save a little face, I suggested that I remove the tow bar and store it in the toad luggage compartment. They acquiesed. Had we been out in the middle of nowhere, I might have had to devise a different strategy. Once I flat out ran a red light in Ensenada. I was guilty. As we were being pulled over, I took all but $15 out of my wallet and handed it to my wife. They asked me to follow them to the PD, but a block before we got there, they stopped and asked if I wanted to settle this now. I agreed, but showed them that I only had $15. In a nice gesture, they took $10 and left me with money to get back home. The same fine would have cost me $150 in California, so I felt pretty happy about the whole deal.

RE: Television reception-Football season

I love RV2Go's suggestion, but you could run into a problem if you camp far from home; once you leave the "spot beam" of your local area, you won't get network channels unless you have the RV exclusion filed and pay for out of area stations. Of course, if you can find some friends who have that sort of set up, then RV2Go's idea would work perfectly. If not, then you'd have to have your friends add the service (it's around $10/mo for DISH). The perfect solution would be to find a Direct subscriber with NFL Season Ticket and link onto their package. Might be easier to just stay in CG's with cable during football season; I'm surprised that you haven't found any yet.

RE: Gatlinburg by way of Little Rock

I've been to the Camping World outside of LR. Was there in April of this year. It's a good-sized one and typical of the better stores in the chain. It's in an industrial area, on a frontage road. Why not call and see if they'll let you boondock? If not, there is plenty of space out on the frontage road and I don't recall seeing any signs saying you couldn't park there. There is also a truck stop at the CW exit.

RE: Attractions In Oregon (Your Suggestions)

Why not head further up the Oregon Coast and check out Florence, Yachats and Newport? All those places tend to get a lot quieter at the end of summer (Sept) and the weather is usually great. The total RT from Bandon to Newport is 240 miles, but if you're not gonna be up here again, you might consider seeing more of the Oregon Coast. You might consider Grants Pass/Crater Lake/Eugene/Newport and then head S down the Coast to Yachats, Florence, Bandon and Gold Beach.

RE: Got New Digital Convertor Box. WOW!!!

To bad you didn't live closer, I have a 70" Mitsubishi TV you could have to go with your box, it's just taking up garage space.:)
I also have a 48" Mitsubishi rear projection TV just taking up space. Hard things to get rid of. :B
I just got $225 for my 61" Toshiba. Of course, I paid $3100 for it back in 1994. Try selling it on Craigslist; a lot of people like those big screens for gaming.

RE: Best BBQ

I like my Weber Q. It's not nearly as good as my large home Weberbutitdoes a nice job. I did blow out a regulator as you're supposedly not supposed to connect it to a large tank, according to the manufacturer. They were kind enough to supply a new regulator and while I still connect it to the RV propane tank, I dis-connect when not using.

Why not make a phone call to one of the Walmarts you'll be visiting in Canada or get your doctor to authorize a refill for the amount of days you'll be out of the U.S.?

RE: Rear View Camera System Replacement with wireless?

Check the range spec before you buy. Most are 20-25'.
rvcams.com has a lot of good stuff.
Not in my book. The last system they sold me lasted less than a year, and I'm a part timer and probably actually used the system less than 90 days.
When I complained about the TV failure, they offered to sell me another, supposedly better one, while acknowledging problems with the TV they originally sold me. IMHO, they should make good on the bad ones since I trusted their judgment in the first place.

RE: Tucson to Oregon coast

Let your experience by your guide. Obviously, your concern is real. Are you willing to bypass some scenic spots because you might be unable to park there?
I'm assuming you're not taking the toad in order to maximize fuel economy. Do the math and figure how much more it would cost to take the toad. Then you can decide what the real cost is and whether it's worth it to you or not. For myself, I always take the toad as I love the freedom it allows; but that's me. Have a great time in Oregon!

RE: Redmond Oregon WARNING

You'd be helping us all if you'd post the same info on rvparkreviews.com....oooops, guess someone already beat me to that tip, but I second it! I give a ton of weight to that website. If I'm thinking of staying there, it's doubtful that I'd do a search on this site, as my first choice is always rvparkreviews.

RE: Friendly Drivers

I've been driving at 55 for the past five years. Normally, I'm a rather aggressive driver, having spent most of my life on the dog-eat-dog streets/freeways of LA; I must say that I'm a lot more relaxed when I only have to pass another vehicle every hour or so and my mileage is about 20% better than it was at 65-70.

RE: campground in TN

If you're into the mountains, the beauty of those mountains and hiking, I can tell you where NOT to stay...that would be in Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg which have to be two of the tackiest towns on the face of the planet and the traffic in the summer will make you wish you were in LA during rush hour. Some people do enjoy having their senses bombarded with gazillions of tourist shops and questionable attractions and if you're one of those many folks, then I would recommend Creekside RV Park. Otherwise, I would look over on the NC side of the park. The beauty is that rates should be cheaper over there and you don't necessarily have to stay in Cherokee as there are several more remote entrances to the park that won't be as built up, thus probably less expensive to stay in.
Start with rvparkreviews.com, search Cherokee and there will also be a list of parks around Cherokee with comments from RVers and links to the CG websites.

RE: How do you keep your bottles upright?

Here's an idea; best of all, it's free. Safeway and it's affiliates have wine 6 pack containers (other markets may carry them as well). While we've always purchased some wine when we've taken the containers, I don't think they would care if you grabbed one or two. They'll easily fit a liter bottle of wine into each slot.

RE: check oil

Cold, though if the pumps are slow when I'm refueling, I'll sometimes check it hot. Doesn't seem to make much, if any, difference as I usually top off when I'm 1/2 qt down, so I've got an extra 1/2 qt safety range.
